Sounds & Scores: Hereditary (2018)

Sounds & Scores: Hereditary (2018)

Sometimes you’re drawn to a film purely because of its sound - it plays a crucial role in cinema. With Sounds & Scores, we celebrate those moments. Together with different artists, we curate films that immerse you with their score or soundtrack.

On ADE Thursday, bitbird is celebrating their 10-year anniversary in the Max, and for the film lovers among us, we will screen a special selection the night after, curated by DROELOE aka Vincent Rooijers. With years of performing at the world’s biggest festivals, DROELOE knows how to craft tracks that feel like stories, with uplifting melodies and stunning visuals. This evening brings together the worlds of horror and electronic music. Prepare for dark, experimental soundscapes that offer a break from nightlife.

Hereditary (Ari Aster, 2018)
Hereditary is a horror masterpiece by American director Ari Aster. Composer Colin Stetson left his mark on the horror genre with his score for Hereditary, working closely with director Ari Aster from the start. For Hereditary, Stetson viewed the music as an additional character in the narrative. He aimed to build tension and keep the audience engaged with unconventional instruments like clarinets and contrabasses, rather than traditional strings and synths. The result is a haunting score enhancing the film's unsettling atmosphere.

The Art of Change (2024)

The Art of Change is a deeply personal audio-visual journey that traverses time and space. Using a “feedback loop” of recorded voice memos addressed to past and future selves, it maps pivotal moments on a multi-sensory life map, interweaving tape-recorded messages from various life stages within the music. Entirely painted and animated in VR using Quill, it offers a pioneering musical journey. This night we will screen the regular version.

Melkweg Cinema

Melkweg stands for pop culture in the broadest sense of the word. Hundreds of concerts, club nights, (music) films, theatre performances, exhibitions and multidisciplinary events attract thousands of visitors annually.

Melkweg is located in the only remaining factory building on the Amsterdam canal belt: a former sugar and, later, milk factory. The historic building hosts two concert halls, a cinema, a multidisciplinary hall and an exhibition space.

In Melkweg, established names stand alongside new talent, and emerging trends are given the opportunity to reach a wide audience. The diversity in programming and audience, in combination with the different spaces and the special location, have made Melkweg a unique place for years.

Please double-check the promoter's or venue's website to be sure you can access the event!

Yes, the Pro Pass grants you access to all ADE official festival events. Even if a festival event is sold out, you can still access the event with your ADE Pro Pass wristband. During ADE there are over 500 festival events and hundreds more cultural and conference events you can enter with the wristband. One thing to keep in mind is that there is a limited capacity that each venue can take into account for ADE Pro wristband holders. This means that, for some of the more crowded events, you have to arrive early to ensure attendance. Once capacity is reached, ADE Pro holders will be let into the event on a one in-one-out basis.
