Modern Ways of Audio Archiving
Modern Ways of Audio Archiving
How does a nightclub preserve its legacy of unique live performances for the future, especially one that thrived on 'living in the moment'? Why archive and share experiences that are meant to be "physical"? And if you decide to archive, how do you approach this, and what’s the best way to share the results?
Legendary club De School’s innovative approach to club archiving has drawn international attention, offering valuable lessons for event organizers.
The awareness amongst makers must grow. What makers create is worth preserving for the next generation. For this reason, on ADE Thursday, Stadsarchief Amsterdam is organizing a panel discussion on this matter. The aim of this discussion is to bring together institutions and creators to share ideas and experiences on audio archiving and create a new paradigm on this subject, with the end goal of building bridges between creators and institutions.
Panelists:
- Cees Martens (Beeld & Geluid), is a project lead at Sound & Vision and director of creative reuse projects, creating opportunities for artists and makers to work with heritage collections.
- Annet Dekker (Het Nieuwe Instituut) is Associate Professor Cultural Analysis and MA Coordinator Archival and Information Studies.
- Miles Niemeijer (Podiumkunst.net) is Domain Coordinator for Music at Podiumkunst.net. He is dedicated to integrating diverse music cultures into the national archives and works to connect and make various (digital) music collections accessible to everyone.
- Migiza Victoriashoop (Stadsarchief Amsterdam) is Head of collections of the Amsterdam Stadsarchief.
- Ilse Rombout (Stadsarchief Amsterdam): Moderator
This event will be held in English. Free entrance, full is full.
Inspired and want more? On Friday, October 18th, Beeld & Geluid (Hilversum, NL) is organizing REMIX Fest, an event offering practical insights, inspiring examples, and innovative ideas on creatively reusing archival material in artistic practices. Tickets are available here.

Most festival events have an age limit of 18+ (and sometimes even 21+ or 23+). These are Dutch governmental rules which state that below the age of 18 you are not allowed to enter a club.
Please double-check the promoter's or venue's website to be sure you can access the event!
Yes, the Pro Pass grants you access to all ADE official festival events. Even if a festival event is sold out, you can still access the event with your ADE Pro Pass wristband. During ADE there are over 500 festival events and hundreds more cultural and conference events you can enter with the wristband. One thing to keep in mind is that there is a limited capacity that each venue can take into account for ADE Pro wristband holders. This means that, for some of the more crowded events, you have to arrive early to ensure attendance. Once capacity is reached, ADE Pro holders will be let into the event on a one in-one-out basis.
We dance together, so please be mindful of yourself and each other.
