DJ Mag Presents: How Social Media is Changing the Sound of Electronic Music

Social media has not only had an impact on the way artists share and promote their work, but also the sound of the music itself. Short-form content like TikTok and Reels have led artists to focus on, and audiences to crave, more immediately impactful elements, such as big drops, higher tempos, shorter and harder tracks, and nostalgia-fuelled pop edits, leading to a cultural shift in the sound of modern dancefloors. But what is the long-term impact on electronic music culture? Will the bubble eventually burst? And, ultimately, what are the best ways to make an impact on social media?
