Creating Faster Than You Can Overthink
Conference
Creating Faster Than You Can Overthink
Speakers: DJ MELL G (DJ, Producer), Johannes Ruß (Head of Product, Ableton), Nadia Struiwigh (DJ, Producer)
Moderator: Joseph Joyce (Editorial Writer & Media Producer, Ableton)
Overthinking can be a significant barrier to creativity. It can lead to doubt, perfectionism, and a reluctance to take risks. When artists constantly question their choices, they may miss out on the raw energy and originality that comes from following their instincts. However, embracing a more spontaneous, free-flowing approach to music-making can help artists stay in the moment, letting their subconscious and emotions guide the process.
This concept isn’t just theoretical—it’s shaping the way modern music tools are being designed. DAWs, controllers, groove boxes, and other instruments are increasingly built to support fast, intuitive creation, helping artists capture ideas as they flow.
Of course, creating quickly comes with challenges, such as maintaining quality and depth in the music. So how can we satisfy the need for speed without losing integrity? How can a simple workflow help us to discover our unique style? How can we create on instinct wherever we go?
To help us explore these questions, Joseph Joyce will guide a conversation with artists Nadia Struiwigh, DJ MELL G, and Ableton Head of Product, Johannes Russ. Together they’ll reflect on the benefits of creating faster than you can overthink and how this mindset can lead to more authentic, innovative, and emotionally powerful music. The panel will also discuss how the right tools can empower music makers to bring their ideas to life quickly and easily, making the creative process more instinctual and enjoyable.
