Tap into TikTok's impact on music
When TikTok popped up on everyone's radar in 2019, it might not have been obvious that it would be the world's main outlet for music discovery just three years later. Today, the app has become a force to be reckoned with, injecting new and untapped sounds into the mainstream and underground alike.
Encountering algorithmic hurdles and declines in engagement, electronic music has had a strained relationship with traditional social platforms recently. However, TikTok’s short-form video format has inspired all kinds of inventive ways for artists to connect with their audiences. Shaking up the status quo with everything from live mashups to tutorials, track breakdowns and wildly creative experiments, #ElectronicMusic has garnered over 2.8 billion views - just since last summer. Hosting content from an eclectic range of established and emerging artists, electronic music has become one of the most popular genres within the app, making its appeal hard to ignore for anyone working within the industry.
Join the TikTok hub at Tobacco Theater
TikTok will venture into the offline realm on Thursday, October 20, setting up its own hub at Tobacco Theater. It's where you can follow three panel talks touching on ways to make the platform work for you and how TikTok is changing the electronic music landscape. The subsequent industry mixer, taking place from 17:00 to 19:00 provides an ideal opportunity to engage with TikTok staff and creators. Additionally, on the artistic side of things, ADE Lab plays host to three workshops: Live: Will It Microphone? with @thomasvopstal, Creating Beats with you as The Human Instrument by @tantubeats, and Sample Breakdown of "Drugs From Amsterdam" by @realmaup.
Back in our online habitat, you can follow ADE’s team of TikTok reporters capturing all the highlights from this year's five day & night bout of music madness. Oh, and don’t forget to share your own #ADEmoments.
Entry to these sessions and many others are available as part of ADE Pro and ADE Lab Passes.
