New Arts & Culture highlights, including 'Hunger To Create' at Nxt Museum, 24classics at Zuiderkerk, and Rooted in Culture

Tuesday, 06 August 2024
Dive into different art niches during Arts & Culture with these new announcements to the program. Highlights include 'Hunger to Create' at Nxt Museum, 24classics presents 'Philip Glass by Lavinia Meijer & Nikki Hock', and a trilogy by Rooted In Culture titled 'Codes of the Dancefloor'. From the crossover between classical and electronic music to the cross-pollination of cultures and audiovisual odes to bodies of work, the edges of art forms are ready to be explored.

Following up on the announcement of ADE Arts & Culture returning this year, we're now rapidly shaping up the program by adding more highlights that give meaning to your five days in Amsterdam.

Experiments of art and sound

Dasha Rush Presents 'Hunger To Create' at Nxt Museum

Nxt Museum brings live electronic experimentation and mind-bending immersive visuals together during Dasha Rush' multi-performance concept 'Hunger To Create' on ADE Friday. The showcase includes the Amsterdam premiere of the 'Hypothetically Personal' audiovisual show by the artist, DJ, and label head, for which Nxt Museum's monumental projection surface will be the backdrop. After the premiere, artist and label head Spekki Webu and visual artist Matti Vilho invite you to explore the depths of your subconsciousness with an all-new audiovisual live experience: 'Signal Transmutations.' Vinyl virtuoso Vân Anh completes 'Hunger To Create' by opening and closing the night with a DJ set. Tickets are available through pre-sale and will go live on August, 16.

24classics presents: Philip Glass by Lavinia Meijer & Nikki Hock

Lavinia Meijer takes on Philip Glass' hypnotic, minimal, and classical music this ADE with a one-off Arts & Culture special at Zuiderkerk. Meijer brings Glass' repertoire's intense and dream-like sounds to life in her signature way during two performances. Multidisciplinary artist Nikki Hock accompanies the harpist with his audiovisual work, making us move between reality and the metaphysical. Like Hock's sculpting, event host 24classics bridges gaps between artistic dimensions and musical genres. Join one of two showcases by clicking the event link.

Mental health and creative worlds

Mark to the Music – A Mindful Art Experience

Mindfulness trainer Jolien Posthumus created this program especially for Amsterdam Dance Event in 2022 and has been a successful program ever since on several events. This year, Mark to the Music returns with Nelly on ADE Saturday, who takes her audience on a personal journey guided by Posthumus. The two take electronic music out of the dancefloor context and integrate it in a proven meditation practice that supports your mental health. With this program in collaboration with Museum of the Mind, and Parallel and, ADE Arts & Culture aims to highlight the positive impact of art and music on mental health.

Breathwork Concert by Jimmy Jansen & Maarten Stok

Imagine an interactive performance in which you go on a journey through your own inner world, with your eyes closed. While musicians fill the space with music, you are taken through a program of songs, poetry and other elements, via (light) breathwork and guided meditations. You will be guided with hands, words, sounds and music by a specially trained 'breath team', with music by Maarten Stok and Jimmy Jansen. Afterwards, there will be room to chat and share your experience or questions with the team, while snacks and tea will be served.

Foam x Stenen Hoofd: Opening Marcel Veldman Poetics of Space

The opening of Marcel Veldman's exhibition at Het Stenen Hoofd on ADE Thursday celebrates art in an unconventional setting with a party inside the infamous containers at Het Stenen Hoofd. Experience the dynamic fusion of art and skateboarding culture. This is a chance to immerse yourself in Veldman's creative world and enjoy an evening at one of Amsterdam's distinctive locations.
