Editorial Picks: New Venues

Sunday, 29 September 2024
ADE's web of clubs, pop venues, pop-up festivals, and big-room halls grows every year. From starting as a small conference almost thirty years ago to the largest global electronic music gathering in the world, the places where you can spot the famous cube keep getting multiplied. We've selected a few new venues worth exploring.

Where can I find the newest ADE cubes?

RASA86

Fast breakbeats in a warehouse setting? That’s a powerful combination for ADE Thursday at RASA86, formerly Noordwaards. With its beasty sound system and high ceilings, this venue sets the stage for Nymfo’s Love For Low Frequencies label, bringing together everything from liquid to hard-hitting drum and bass, featuring VOXI, Rayven Lux, DLR, TMSV, and more.

Skatecafe

Milan-based Music and Arts Festival, Polifonic, is teaming up with PARAMIDA’s record label, Love On The Rocks, for yet another exceptional night at venue Skatecafe. On ADE Thursday, these two influential names in progressive electronic music are rolling out an exciting lineup with Retromigration, Naone, JEANS, and Simone De Kunovich — along with 12 more artists to keep the energy high and the dancefloor misty!

Museum Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder

Another highlight at the intersection of classical and electronic music takes place at Museum Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder, a well-preserved 17th-century canal house nestled in Amsterdam’s Red Light District. For ADE’24, the museum invites DJ and producer JP Enfant to present a contemporary interpretation of the 16th-century choirbook, the Occo Codex. He will perform live in the museum’s hidden church with organist Pietro Paganini on ADE Thursday and ADE Friday. Known for his dynamic performances, JP Enfant has become a key figure in Amsterdam's techno scene, while Pietro Paganini specialises in Early Music and serves as the organist at the museum

Benelux Bar

The Munich-based platform and label Public Possession makes its debut at ADE'24 with a night at cosy bar Benelux. With a passion for breakbeat and house, they've invited Orpheu The Wizard, SedefAdasi, and Stella Zekri to set the night in full motion on ADE Thursday.

B.Rooftop

Elevating powerful voices to great heights — Resilience was created over a year ago as a platform to support resilient creatives, countries, and communities through events and initiatives. Now, it returns to ADE to raise funds for Gaza with an outdoor dance at the spacious rooftop garden of new venue B.Rooftop. Join DJ, producer, and activist Sama’ Abdulhadi as she invites her artist friends Ida Engberg, Victor Ruiz, YA Z AN, and special guest NOORIYAH to play back-to-backs with her all night long on ADE Thursday.

Club RAUM

Queer community Club RAUM welcomes the legendary Clone Records on ADE Thursday to showcase some musical heavyweights in its studio. The lineup features DJ Stingray, The Exaltics (live), The Lady Machine, Wata Igarashi, and of course label head Serge. From the depths of the Dutch west coast to the forefront of inclusive spaces, this is a night you won’t want to miss.

Multipla

Italian resto-club Multipla gets the ADE Weekend rolling. On ADE Friday, the multi-room venue hosts a wholesome gathering curated by Pintai and Small Steps. In the main room, expect live and DJ sets from Hafa, Hame, Lola Haro, Bruno Schmidt, and Ben Kamal. Meanwhile, the Bloom Bar, curated by Project Indigo, will create a laid-back atmosphere with ambient and downtempo sets by Ben Kaczor, Lb Honne, Matsssiii, and more.

Phono Lake

A new player in town, Phono Lake opened its doors this year to welcome dancers to its cosy terrace amidst water and lush greenery. With its first year at ADE, the new venue kicks off strong with a four-point sound system and a four-fold event series. One highlight is Cape St. Francis Records, which embraces its motto, ‘Highlighting diverse musical waves,’ featuring a night with AliA, DTM Funk, and label head Lil Lawaw. Experience the new venue at Nieuw-West’s Sloterpark before it takes a winter break.

DB55

Taking place at dynamic venue DB55 in the heart of Amsterdam’s Houthavens, CADENCE is a group photography exhibition featuring four established photographers from the music scene: Aileen de Ruijter, Charlotte van der Gaag, Rachel Ecclestone, and Tatiana van Waveren. This exhibition showcases their artistic visions, united by a shared passion for music. Open throughout ADE week, the exhibition is free to access!

NDSM theater

Last year’s ADE Arts & Culture Ballroom event was so successful that ‘A Taste Of Ballroom’ returns – and adds an extra twist this year. Yamuna Forzani teams up with The Dutch Ballroom Scene and Vain Beauty to present ‘Ethereal Nights’ at NDSM Theater on ADE Saturday, where visitors can enjoy a drag make-up workshop, a theatrical performance, and a very interactive event: a mini ball.

Orgelpark

ADE'24 brings an exciting twist for classical and left-field music lovers! Two young composers are putting their spin on the works of Austrian composer Anton Bruckner at the Orgelpark, a hidden gem near Vondelpark that has been transformed from a monumental church into a vibrant organ concert venue. Visitors can look forward to Frieda Gustavs’ SYMPHONY 2, featuring the distinctive sound of 20 trombones alongside the venue’s organs, and Rick van Veldhuizen’s ZERO, which reworks Bruckner’s abandoned symphony with electric guitars, saxophones, and Ensemble Klang’s electronic elements. Don’t miss these classical live performances on ADE Sunday to wrap up the festival by exploring musical reimagination.
