Following up on recent news about Asia Konnekt and Expanding your business network at ADE we continue with a list of conference must visits on the first day of ADE.

On Wednesday October 16th we kick off our program at DeLaMar Theater with the verticals ADE Health, ADE Live Forum and ADE Legal. De Brakke Grond will host ADE Beamlab and the first topics of ADE Soundlab, and ADE University takes place at the Generator Hotel, where students, young professionals and industry heads come together.

Only One in the Room – the diversity question behind the scenes
Five female music professionals and one male discuss research, personal experiences, and concrete action points around gender diversity and inclusion in the traditional music industry, focussing on companies such as the major labels and the music tech sector. Sarah Hildering has led two projects; one focussed on gathering data about gender x level of seniority x salary with a trial study carried out last year, and again this year with the help and support of Prof. Dr. Samantha Warren, who researches discrimination in the music industry. We will have this year's data available at ADE Pro and will share it for the first time during this panel. The second project is the Code of Conduct written by Sarah Hildering and Matthew Adell which will also be presented. The CoC is begin adopted by AFEM member companies already and hopefully inspire many more enterprises to follow their example.

Keynote by Cercle: The Show Must Go On

This Live Forum keynote, part of our focus on France, is a true meeting of minds featuring Cercle CEO and founder Derek Barbolla in conversation with Mathieu Glissant, director of photography at Cercle and professor of cinema at the Sorbonne. The duo will be digging deep into the raison d’être and modus operandi of Cercle to demonstrate how they manage to adapt shows to every possible (and unexpected) situation and location thanks to a small, agile team and a minimalist approach to filming and producing events.

Festival Screw-Ups And What We Learnt From Them

You don’t want to miss on the closing talk of the ADE Live Forum. A combination of fun and wise lessons as the large-scale live industry is now one of the slickest and most respected entertainment sectors in the world, but it wasn't always that way, it became like that through trial...and error. Some of the central figures of the festival circuit will be opening up about their journey, and the mistakes they made along the way, plus, most importantly, what they have learned from those errors. Be prepared for some shocking truths and hard-earned wisdom

Highlights

The Team Behind Spinnin’ Records at ADE University
Celebrating its 20th birthday this year, Spinnin’ Records has witnessed the rise and further evolution of dance music throughout the years, playing a role on global scale with launching new music and artists on a regular basis. During this panel, Spinnin’s past, present and future, A&R and development of dance music in general will be discussed.

The Art of Sampling in the Aftermath of the CJEU Kraftwerk Judgment
As part of our Legal stream at DeLaMar we will dive deep into this infamous Kraftwerk case. It seems that there will be a bit more room for sampling against the background of the decision that sampling should be deemed an art form in itself. But under what circumstances is it possible to sample recordings without the prior consent of the master owners, and what role does the human auditory sense play in this situation? And what might be the impact of the CJEU Kraftwerk judgment on the future of the electronic, bass and hip hop scenes?

Theremin Workshop with Dorit Chrysler at ADE Sound Lab
We can't think of anyone better to help us celebrate this year’s theme, 100 years of electronic music instruments, than the founder of the New York Theremin Society and America's first Theremin school Dorit Chrysler.

Riding the Wave of Technology With GAIA
Also as part of 100 years of electronic music instruments we are happy to welcome GAIA at DeLaMar, the two-man front line, with DJ/producer Armin van Buuren and producer Benno de Goeij (Rank 1). GAIA is an alter ego that gives both producers the freedom to explore other universes that they normally wouldn’t go to in other projects. They will explain working live on stage, including exclusive video footage.

What a Difference a Year Makes: Streaming Royalties in China

Wednesday will host House of China once again, as prominent Chinese DSP’s are more than music streaming platforms. They have leveled-up from just a music streaming service to a fully integrated social media music platform. We look on how royalties, deal-making and money streams for artists and indie labels on Chinese Digital Streaming Platforms have moved towards a more sustainable model. An insight into the progress that has been made since last year.

In conversation with Studio Drift about Franchise Freedom at ADE Beamlab

ADE Beamlab
will host a series of talks that you don’t want to miss. One of them is Franchise Freedom, a performance artwork by Studio Drift merging nature and technology creating an immersive experience. Hundreds of luminous drones perform an aerial choreography simulating a flock of starlings, flying autonomously and exploring the individual versus the group. Studio Drift created a biological algorithm based on over 10 years of research into natural swarm behavior and embedded this into the drones.

Zen Space invites Joe Muggs's Ambient Salon

This year we have introduced ADE Zen Space for the first time, and it will be open all the days of ADE. And as you might not need that rest yet on the first day, we definitely recommend to come by at Joe Muggs's Ambient Salon to listen to and talk about underground music, culture and more with Joe and special guests.
