The second day of our conference marks, next to an extensive ADE Pro program, the return of ADE TECH in DeLaMar theater, the track that is focused on technology in the music and events space. Main Pro streams are ADE Brands and ADE Labels, Streaming & Publishing, and Thursday also will have its second day of ADE University and ADE Sound Lab, which now adds the Compagnietheater to its program. Below a selection of emerging topics and gems for ADE Thursday.
ADE’s Spotlight for New Ideas and Innovations at ADE TECH
In cooperation with Paylogic we host ADE TECH and will kick off the program with the annual Companies 2 Watch (C2W), putting the very best new ideas and innovations relating to the music industry in the spotlight. In July C2W issued an open invitation for all innovative companies, from start-ups to established organisations, to submit their idea for a chance of winning a place in the finals on the main-stage of DeLaMar Theater during ADE Tech. We re happy to welcome the following companies: Audionamix, Fangage, Jambl, Marble AR and SendMusic.
The jury for C2W 2019 features Werner Vogels (CTO at Amazon), Suzy Ryoo (co-founder and director at Q&A) and last year’s winner Diego Farias (CEO at Amuse).
First there was the Love Parade
Depending on how you look at them, street parades can be seen as a form of personal and collective liberation or as an ecological car crash. What do the host cities get out of them from both a positive and negative point of view? Hear Dr. Motte, founder of the Berlin Love Parade, share his thoughts, along with representatives from Paris’s Techno Parade, Zurich’s Street Parade and Amsterdam’s own Pride.
For All Who Love... ADE
The LGBTQ+ scene was at the core of the beginnings of club culture and still has an important part in our vibrant scene. The For All Who Love Foundation and Milkshake Festival Amsterdam invite you to For All Who Love... ADE. During the day, they invite the most inspiring queer voices to share their view on its representation in nightlife. From the importance of drag to the safety of our queer club scene, they seek to inform and broaden the view on what it means to be queer in today’s nightlife scene. The program includes talks with Mykki Blanco and Imp Queen as well as a range of relevant panel discussions.
A Peek into the Record Bags of Roger Sanchez, Junior Sanchez and DJ Sneak at ADE Sound Lab
After last year’s success, ADE Sound Lab will continue with the “The Record Bag of…” series. These are intimate sessions where top artists bring a selection of their favourite records and explain why they love them so much, as well as those record's importance and impact on the wider scene. And what better way to kick off this year’s series than with an S-men session. The iconic trio of DJ Sneak, Junior Sanchez and Roger Sanchez will share the records and the DJs that inspired them in creating their original sound.
The Changing Landscape of Brand Integration at ADE Brands
Our panelists aim to show the exciting, dynamic relationship between dance and brands and the myriad ecosystems that they share to mutual benefit. Panelists will delve into the crux of the nature of collaborations between brands and music and how the relationship has grown and changed over time, as well as offering their varied views and experiences on how they have worked on integrations in their respective markets, discussing campaigns which have had spectacular results. The kaleidoscopic journey between dance and brands will be discussed from the point of view of both the brand and the agency; two very important sides of the equation.
Team Behind Cocoon at ADE University
It's always interesting to meet the team behind a clubland brand, as every single one is unique with its own strengths and challenges, but this one will be something special. Because Cocoon – the label and event organisation with one foot in Frankfurt, one in Ibiza, and activities that span the globe – is a high respected music brand in the industry. Headed, of course, by the colourful Sven Väth, Cocoon events have been taking place since 1996, and the label has been active in the underground electraleonic landscape since 2000. All this time, Cocoon has not only maintained its position but also its musical and creative integrity without wavering from its vision of real-deal electronic music and enveloping event experiences.

Connect with the French Market at French Electronic Lab
On Thursday our focus country France will host the guesthouse at De Balie with its French Electronic Lab. In the past 10 years, the French scene has seen the creation of many new clubs and festivals, and some of them quickly gained national and international attention through a sharp, innovative and attractive musical programming, combining international headliners and local emerging talents. These clubs and festivals have contributed to the growth of an entire new generation of French artists and shaped the "Made in France" electronic music scene. This panel will explore what made the success of these clubs and festivals, what are the specifics of this new French scene in terms of artists and musical genres and how these clubs and festivals work on their artistic direction on a day to day basis, as well as revealing opportunities for non-French labels and artists
Hard Lessons From the Story of EMI’s Downfall
As part of the ADE Labels, Streaming & Publishing vertical, we kick off the day with a spicy topic. The acquisition of legendary music company EMI by private equity company Terra Firma in 2007 was supposed to signal the beginning of a new phase and a brighter future for it, but due to a series of missteps, catastrophic management decisions, an overpowering debt package, a collapsing record business struggling with the move into digital and a lack of strategic direction, it ended up being the beginning of the end. The whole story is, in fact an object lesson in how not to run a music business
Managing Director Raymond van Vliet on 15 Years of Cloud 9
November marks the 15th anniversary of Cloud 9 Music and to celebrate the occasion, company managing director Raymond van Vliet will be revealing how the company started with Armin van Buuren, through to the beginning of the career of Hardwell and right up to the present. The person at the centre of one of The Netherland's success stories of the last decade will also be detailing his way of working and how to get the best out of each and every opportunity that comes along. This keynote is part of our ADE Labels, Streaming & Publishing stream.
Live Coded Music on Stage at ADE TECH
This panel is an introduction to the emerging but still niche phenomenon of live coded arts and music known as Algorave, a phrase that was coined in 2012 by Alex McLean of Slub and Nick Collins. It is a combination of live coded music and visuals which is gaining fans around the world, and ADE TECH is delighted to welcome three of its prime exponents. The panelists will discuss the ins and outs of live, spontaneous coding in relation to the concept of art. During the session they will also perform a demonstration of the thoroughly audiovisual Algorave experience. And if you want more algo-raving you can always visit the algorave at ADE Sound Lab later on Thursday.
Hard Dance Event at the Q-Dance Studios
Last but not least, after a year of absence, we will once more connect with the people who have a passion for the harder styles during ADE. This is the ultimate networking event for everything about hard-style taking place at the Elementenstraat. Expect workshops, panels and showcases on high bpm music.
