Yaw Asamani (ES)
Yaw is a global citizen, born and raised in Botswana to Ghanaian parents, former Londoner for 15 years who now calls Spain ‘home’. Describing himself as a “Creative Entrepreneur,” Yaw’s journey began over 20+ years ago as an artist, curious to understand the music industry.
His introduction to music as a business started through his work in Marketing at Deal Real Records, London (UK), whose clients included hip-hop royalty such as Roc-A-Fella Records, Wu-Tang Clan, and tours like Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black Tour featuring Mr. Hudson, and Kanye West’s Glow in the Dark Tour.
In 2013, Yaw founded an award-winning music messaging app/API, DooWapp (UK), where the team secured industry-first partnerships with Universal Music Publishing Group and Sony ATV, pioneering the short-form licensing model pre-TikTok.
His subsequent role was Managing Director at Airbit (Acquired by Bandlab), where he worked closely with the Founder. Airbit played a pivotal role in launching the “SoundCloud Rapper” era which spawned the careers of artists like Lil Uzi Vert, Chance the Rapper and many more. Airbit democratised music production by giving producers tools to monetize their work, while providing artists access to award-winning producers at lightning speed via the industry-leading marketplace.
Over the last decade, Yaw has been at the forefront of MusicTech innovation specialising in Strategy & Partnerships. He is passionate about the intersection of creativity and technology, especially how startups are empowering creators to get paid. This experience includes founding and leading his own startup, Bawse, a Record Label on-Demand, currently in private beta. He also works alongside innovative startups such as TwoShot (London, UK), with a mission to reimagine sampling, creation, and remixing with ethically trained AI models.
As a mentor, and from his strong background and experience in Business Development and Product Management, Yaw is inspired by the potential of creativity and technology and is eager to share his wealth of experience—from success to challenges—with like-minded entrepreneurs.
