Victor Dissel (NL)

Artist

Victor Dissel is a new media artist with a strong foundation in composition and sound design. He is known for his audiovisual installations that explore the intersection of digital media and the natural world. His artistic practice is driven by a central question: how do we relate to change? At the core of his work lies a fascination with balance – not as a fixed state, but as a dynamic tension between forces that attract, challenge, and momentarily hold each other. On every scale, from the individual level to vast ecosystems, everything seems to strive for equilibrium, yet this drive for balance often results in extremes. Dissel’s work investigates what emerges in the in-between spaces, where these opposing forces meet and transform. Through his installations, he examines how natural processes and artificial structures can intersect or amplify one another.

In works such as Reflect, SouRCe, and Smelt, he has explored this interplay through tactile, sensory experiences: from sound vibrations that animate a water surface to a 1800 kilo melting ice block slowly losing its form in public space. Through these shared, immersive environments, Dissel invites audiences to connect with the physical world we inhabit, while raising fundamental questions about control, change, and impermanence.

His work has been presented by organisations and festivals including ADE, Orbit Festival, Uncloud, Into The Woods, Monopol Berlin, Kunsthal
KAdE, Rotterdam Art Week, and LUX Helsinki.
