Nemone Metaxas (GB)

Speaker

Nemone has been at the forefront of UK national broadcasting for 25 years, with the last twenty four at the BBC. She is a familiar daytime voice on BBC 6 Music but her passion for dance music led to curating a specialist show (Nemone’s Electric Ladyland) for the best part of the last decade.

Before her career in broadcasting, Nemone’s fascination with the complexities of the human mind and how we relate to one another led her to complete a Psychology BSc at Manchester University. A lifetime spent listening and talking to people in the interests of hearing and communicating their story compelled her to return to study Psychotherapy later in life, gaining her masters and she now also sees clients on a weekly basis for a range of issues.

As a fully qualified psychotherapist, Nemone is an insightful interviewer and vocal champion of mental health issues. During the pandemic, she was the first to bring breathing and grounding exercises to a broader audience via BBC 6 Music. Building on her psychotherapeutic background, she now hosts her award winning Journeys in Sound series: a more intimate enquiry into our relationship with music, interviewing musicians about the experiences that have shaped who they are. Series 9 returns to BBCSounds and BBC6Music in October 2024. From May 2024, as resident psychotherapist on the ‘Shrink The Box’ podcast, alongside cohost actor and screenwriter Ben Bailey Smith, she puts tv’s favourite characters into therapy, sharing insights into the behaviour of Dr Frasier Crane, Moira in Schitt’s Creek, Sydney Adamu from The Bear, Chandler from Friends and Tommy Shelby from Peaky Blinders among many others.

Nemone has collaborated with and consulted for a wide range of organisations including IMS (International Music Summit) in Ibiza, Glasgow’s Resonate Music Conference, Mixcloud, Deya Brewery, London’s Science Museum, Help Musicians, Scottish Ensemble, Kendal Mountain Festival, the Arts Foundation, HTLGI Festival and hosted the inaugural Mastery Series at Earth Hackney in London last year. And her unique skill set has led her to DJ alongside, appear on panels with and interview a wide range of guests including Soulwax, Marshall Jefferson, Frankie Knuckles, Fatboy Slim, Sister Bliss, Jennifer Cardini, Anja Schnieder, 808 State, Kelly Lee Owens, Max Cooper, Daniel Avery, Sherelle, I Jordan, Paul Weller, Self Esteem, Graham Coxon, Planningtorock, John Grant and Hannah Peel.
