Hubie Davison (IE)
Artist
Hailing from Ireland and previously studying music composition in London, Hubie Davison
synthesizes the emotive melodicism of artists like John Talabot and Caribou with the bare
grooviness of Nicolas Jaar, incorporating phantasmagorical vocal samples into a refined
instrumental palette. His debut release I Won’t Be There on Berlin’s Leisure System was
the first introduction to Davison’s fully-formed feel for mellow grooves, and he moved
further towards the dancefloor with the release of 2014′s Khayyam Grey, also on Leisure
System, and “Sanctified,” out on Midland’s ReGraded label and drawing attention
throughout the summer of 2015. Those recent 12”s are a snapshot of the 26-year-old
Davison’s DJing, which incorporates all manner of memorable house and assorted
wonkiness and has seen him play at Panorama Bar, Corsica Studios, Longitude Festival,
and Gaité lyrique in Paris.
