Dr Dubplate (GB)

Dr Dubplate and the UK’s underground dance music scene run synonymously. Be it selling out shows nationwide with his close-knit crew, or breaking down barriers for the next generation with his label ec2a, the Dr is at the heart of it all.

Over the past couple of years, he’s become the spearhead for the homegrown scene, single handedly cultivating a cult-like community in a quest to represent the underrepresented. As the next generation of tastemaker, he leads the graft - touring as a DJ, whilst running a successful label business, elevating largely undiscovered talent - with no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Ec2a was born in 2020, inspired by his inspirations and upbringing. His introduction to dance music was heavily influenced by his father (then manager of London institution Plastic People), spending most weeks in the cloakroom to a backdrop of Floating Points, Theo Parrish and Four Tet whilst developing an early appreciation for UK soundsystem and club culture.

Emerging during the height of the post-pandemic rave scene in the UK, his debut as Dr Dubplate soon followed and he’s been levelling up ever since. Standout shows for Printworks, The Warehouse Project, Boiler Room, Fabric and Boomtown Festival have followed, an Australian tour at the tail end of 2023 and his debut headline UK tour just around the corner.

An impact mix via Mixmag earlier this year presents just a snapshot of his genre-diverse DJ sets, ranging from signature darkside UKG edits, to percussive latinx sounds, techno and breaks. A true reflection of his musical influence and character - eclectic selections vs. creative blends. Think Benji B versus Oneman.

With label and DJ projects running side by side, Dr Dubplate has built a tight-knit team
around him, combining experience and opportunity at grassroots level, both creatively and commercially. Along the way, he’s built relationships with some of the biggest in the game, but the priority remains to uplift his peers, lead by example and use his platform to unapologetically disrupt the norm. Dr Dubplate is now firmly part of the furniture, extremely well respected by his peers, the wider dance music community and an inspiration to the youngers and fans alike.
