Mixed Reality for Culture: ADE Synthweavers

Can you create a fully-fledged online alternative to a conference with thousands of attendees? And what new digital-creation opportunities does this provide? Mixed Reality for Culture believes that by deploying mixed-reality techniques and gamification, the events industry has a golden opportunity to appeal to a new, digitally oriented audience. One tangible outcome of the project is ADE’s Synthweavers: an educational game and group-learning session that allows you to learn the basics of modular synthesizer in an interactive virtual environment. People who finish the game get access to a digital synthesizer and a few synth patches to practice more.

After a successful start with our August and September sessions, we're excited to announce that sign-ups for our ADE Synthweavers masterclasses during ADE have opened! This edition features a new instructor, Sie Medway-Smith from The Music Production Academy. Join us for the remote daily sessions on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 11:00 AM CEST (online only), or Saturday at 12:00 PM CEST with an actual audience at the Felix Meritis. Don’t miss out!

About ADE Synthweavers

Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) presents a groundbreaking initiative in collaboration with Amerpodia, Spaceshift and Pitto as part of the Innovatielabs program. Together we strive to reinforce cultural and creative events by exploring how mixed reality and gamification techniques can enrich the ADE experience by seamlessly integrating the on- and offline programming. This innovative project aims to reach new target groups and offers an inspiring example for the entire sector. With a solid foundation in the previously developed digital platform, we aim to enrich the physical event with immersive online experiences. This approach forms a blueprint for a new business model within the event industry. Next to that, we introduce the result of our efforts: a 'gamified learning experience' called ADE Synthweavers. In this unique experience, young creators are challenged to learn the basic principles of modular synths through storytelling and rewards. Dive into the fascinating world of synthesizers, where knowledge and inspiration come together in a game. After completing the game, participants can immediately get started with advanced digital synth software.

About Innovatielabs

The Innovatielabs program gives an impulse to new resilience in the cultural and creative sector. The Creative Industries Fund NL, on behalf of all national culture funds, and CLICKNL implement the program on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.

The Creative Industries Stimulation Fund and CLICKNL issued the Open Call Innovation Labs twice, in 2021 and 2022. This call was open to innovative and experimental projects to tackle current challenges in the cultural and creative sector and increase the resilience of the sector. Many makers, cultural institutions and other creative parties were involved. From all their ideas, the first edition selected sixteen projects and the second edition seventeen projects. Together, the 33 initiatives represent more than 200 parties from various cultural and creative disciplines.
